Issie Barratt's Interchange
The recently formed ‘Issie Barratt’s Interchange’, an all-female dectet have taken the last remaining slot for the festival, which will take place at Scarborough Spa on 22 – 24 September 2017.
Composer, artistic director and baritone saxophonist Issie Barratt has performed at a majority of leading concert halls, jazz clubs and festivals across Europe, South East India and North America.
The Dectet is a brand new project for Issie, which features some of the finest female musicians the jazz world has seen.
The ensemble is composed of vocals from Brigitte Beraha, trumpet and electronics by Yazz Ahmed, alto sax and clarinet from Helena Kay, tenor/flute/violin from Tori Freestone, trombone from Carol Jarvis, cello from Shirley Smart, piano from Nikki Iles, percussion from Corrina Silvester, bass from Charlie Pyne and baritone sax from Issie Barratt herself.
Scarborough Jazz Festival Director Mike Gordon is over the moon with his final booking for this year’s event. He said “I had one gap in the programme and I was waiting for something extra special. I think we’ve got it! How often does a festival manage to book a band with ten star female performers?”
