The Eastern Area Schools Youth Jazz Orchestra
The Spa’s Sun Court

Following a morning workshop in the Sun Court led by Jason Yarde & Tristan Bankss – an entertaining and interesting event which anyone is welcome to attend – the tutors will take part in the afternoon interval performance.

Why not come along and have a drink or some food whilst you listen to these talented young people?

 

Mister Tooley’s Gospel Brunch
The Spa’s Sun Court

The inimitable Scarborough based DJ, Mister Tooley, plays a righteous mix of hand clapping, foot-stomping gospel recordings on original vinyl. These rare and unique recordings range from raw spirituals and the exciting harmonies of the jubilee groups to the sanctified soul of The Caravans and Sister Rosetta Tharpe.

 

Teddy Bears’ Jazz Picnic
The Spa’s Ocean Room
Sunday 24th September, 11am – 12.15pm
Entry: £4, £7 (Parent & Child) 

Kathy Seabrook along with members of The Northern Showtime Orchestra host a special jazz infused Teddy Bears’ Picnic.

This highly interactive and educational session will introduce young children to jazz from around the world.  There will be plenty of opportunities to sing along, play along and dance along so why not bring along your own shakers and maracas, as well as your teddies, to play with us.

The Stephen Joseph Theatre’s Funky Choir
The Spa’s Sun Court
Sunday 24 September, 5.30pm

This adult funky community choir, around twenty in number, perform classic disco, funk, pop and rock tunes arranged by Musical Director, Mark Gordon. With an original approach the emphasis is on having lots of fun singing! The choir will be try their hand at some jazz standards … as well as presenting their usual colourful and lively set.

There’s always a great atmosphere in the Jazz Lounge with the Jim Birkett Trio playing between sets.  Jim – a leading guitarist on the northern scene - will again be joined by drummer Tom Townsend and bassist Paul Baxter, both renowned performers.

This year we are hoping lots of the festival performers will sit in with them.
